Topic: Integumentary System, Nervous System, and Reproductive System Description: In this session we will present about three of the body systems that help it to run so smoothly, including the integumentary system, the nervous system, and the reproductive system. For each system we will go over its definition, parts of the system, functions, benefits, and connections between the systems. Students will learn what body systems are and how they help the body, in addition to learning a more in depth understanding of the specific systems listed here. Topic: Speaker (Dr. Wendy Smith -- ENT Surgeon) Description: Dr. Wendy Smith is an Ear, Nose, & Throat Surgeon in the Bay Area. During her childhood in California, she learned early on about the medical profession from her parents, both of whom were Primary Care Physicians. The satisfaction they received from helping their patients inspired her to follow in their footsteps. Dr. Smith first came to the Bay Area for her undergraduate education at Stanford University. She spent one year after graduation working at the Stanford Center for Healthcare Policy/Center for Primary Care and Outcomes Research on bioterrorism-related research. She then moved to San Diego, where she completed her medical school and residency training in Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery at the University of California at San Diego. Topic: Rheumatology (led by Rowan) Description: In this session we will present about what the practice of rheumatology is, some different examples of rheumatologic conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, how to become a rhumetologist, and what being a rhumatologist would be like. Volunteers will introduce these topics and students will learn the details of how rheumatologic treatment works, and the skills and education pathway needed to become a rhumatologist. Helping students gain a fundamental understanding of DNA, its properties and how it makes them who they are.
